Social Events

The GWG social programme for the group is very informal. Members just organise things as and when they think of them, particularly in the winter months when we don’t have our Thursday evening walks. So if you’ve got a great idea or are going along to something anyway and fancy some company, just let Lucy, our Social Coordinator, know and she’ll happily advertise it for you.

Just email Lucy (social@gwg.org.uk) with the details and she’ll pass them on to other members and get the details published on the website. Previous events have included things like meals out, theatre trips, ten-pin bowling, canoeing, pub quizzes etc. But we’re always up for new ideas!

Saturday 10th July 2010 - Open Air Shakespeare
Four of us so far are going to see As You Like It by the Rococo Players at the Rococo Garden, Painswick on Saturday 10th July. The performance starts at 7.30pm with picnics in the grounds from 6pm. If you'd like to join us, just go to their website to find information about tickets etc. They have seats in two tiered, covered stands @ £15 each or bring your own deckchair, sit in an uncovered area and pay £10. We have (covered) seats in row I, numbers 16-19 if you want to sit near us. Let me know if you are coming and we'll know to look out for you at picnic time!

Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th July 2010 - Canoeing Trip
Colin is organising a weekend's walking and canoeing near the Black Mountains and may have one or two spaces free. Please contact him direct if you are interested. Accommodation is at The Black Mountain Lodge, where the group stayed for the gorge walking. Rooms cost £23.50 per person per night minimum of four people per room, which includes breakfast - see website for more details. Half day canoe hire is £12.50 per person or £20 for full day. The half day trip covers the 5 miles between Glasbury-on-Wye to Hay-on-Wye and is quite varied, including shallows, dead ends, submerged rocks, deep spots for swimming (family tradition), a low weir to shoot, and a pub conveniently located at the half way point. He is planning a couple of walks (Friday and Sunday) with canoeing on Saturday morning.
